Artist's Comments

Well, I just had to read Frankenstein again for a class. Thus, at waaay too late last night, I felt compelled to try to draw the horrible-magnifiscent daemon. Just a note, though the term demon is derived from daemon, daemon is a Greek word for a half-mortal, half-god. Well, this was a 'quick' sketch... thus the scribblyness. I felt the need to post it, even though it's not as polished as I would like (I really didn't portray the fact that the skin only barely covers his body). Side note, from Frankenstein describing his monster just as it awakes: "How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I have endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!-- Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black and flowing; his teeth of pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips."

Photoshop, 2 hours.

great (even if a little sketchy) work! this gives me a new perspective on frankenstein's creation than i have ever imagined. definitely very human and yet sadly distanced from the world of humans. wonderful! :D

as for the pic, i can't explain it, but i really like your use of sutures connecting the joints in the skin...and throughout the face, there is such a sad human quality clearly evident...lovely rendition...i find myself wishing to converse with him...see what he, as a creation of a merely finite being, thinks life is about...maybe he could add a perspective for my 'life, death, and meaning' course...;-)

That's a very interesting take on the Monster.

That's really cool. Nice work. Demon is the word to describe the nephalim. Nephalim are talked about in the sixth chapter of genesis. They are the sons of god that found the daughters of man to be fair, so they took them as wives. What that means is that fallen angels bred with humans to create a half breed. This is also chronicled in most every other religion. Greek Mythology etc. They mistaked the fallen angels as gods. Your frankenstein rocks though. I like this. Coo stuff.

YES! *happy dance* I'm so glad someone finally portrayed him as he was in the actual book! I couldn't stand to see one more sketch of a block-headed, green skin, bolt laden creature; I would have had a fit -_-.

Was there ever a girl named Hissy who had fits?
